The 20 Questions Game

The last time I went to visit my mother in law someone handed me a tiny hand held game and told me to give it a try. The game was 20 questions, and I had a good time trying to beat it. Quite honestly, this is one smart little game, and I tried my hardest to try to stump it but it got me time and time again. I finally chose something that I am pretty sure was no in it’s database because I finally stumped it. I do have to admit it was very close though. It made me wonder how something so little could be so smart.

When you play 20 questions with people, it’s much easier to understand the questions. Though you are usually supposed to say yes or no answers, this 20 Questions Game allows for ‘sometimes’ which I would think would make it harder to guess. There were times I used the ‘sometimes’ option though, and it still go it every time. I guess it is a matter of logical deduction, much like when you play with a person, but because it is a program I was very impressed with it’s accuracy.

The funniest part of the 20 questions game was that it seemed to have a sense of humor, even though I know that’s not possible. I was thinking of a person, and when it asked me if it could contain liquid I had to crack a smile. I guess that depends on how you look at it right? This game does go past 20 questions if it cannot guess, but quite honestly, even with questions about liquid, it seems to get it right most of the time, sometimes even before it gets done with the 20 questions.

The game my mother in law has is a few years old, but a friend has told me that they have come out with a newer version of 20 questions. I might just have to go out and get it this year. It might be something fun for all of those times when you are stuck waiting in line, or perhaps stuck on a long flight. It’s even a great game you can take turns playing if you have someone with you. Though nothing will ever replace the oral version of 20 questions, this is a great substitute when perhaps you need to be quiet. It is also fun for your mind when you are relaxing all by yourself.
